In the early hours of July 9, 2013, RED announced that the highly anticipated RED DRAGON cameras will begin shipping to early adopters in September. Much speculation had built over the years regarding the DRAGON sensor, until RED announced the exciting details of the 6K sensor at this year's NAB. With improved resolution, 16+ stops of native latitude, and a lower noise floor, founder Jim Jannard explains, "It is worth the wait. Times 10."

"The DRAGON is too big to call evolution. While other companies are struggling to figure out how to catch up to where we were, the DRAGON sensor leaps forward to a territory that others apparently could not ever imagine."

RED continues its promise to uphold its mantra of "Obsolescence Obsolete," issuing these new sensors as an upgrade to the existing RED EPIC and SCARLET cameras, as opposed to ushering customers in line to buy a completely new system.

"It is hugely better than what others would qualify as good enough to justify a new camera model. But we upgrade. We let you get more from your current EPIC."

DRAGON upgrades start at $9,500 for both SCARLET and EPIC cameras.
